In the Chaos

If you haven’t heard about CONVID-19 also known as the Coronavirus, you’ve been living under a rock. You can’t get away from hearing about it on the news and social media. Here in the States, people are panicking and buying all the toilet paper. Side note, I find it funny Kleenexes are still on the shelf, because if you get the virus, you’re going to need the Kleenex, because your nose is going to run like crazy. Several European countries are pretty much on lock down.

I work in the pharmaceutical world, I actually have a degree in Microbiology. I’m not going to get on here and say I’m an expert at this stuff, but the world is freaking out and making decisions that make no sense.

Yes, this virus is highly contagious. The media is spouting off that 60-70% of the US could be infected, but what the media doesn’t tell you that most of us are infected with some disease anyways. Infection means that you have the virus in your body and it can replicate. Like mentioned before, many of us are infected with some bacteria or virus, but our immune systems can fight off the infection, and therefore not ill.

The elderly and people with medical conditions should take precautions and we should use a little better hygiene as with any bad flu season. Wash those hands, don’t touch your face, and cover your mouth when you cough (preferably in your elbow or tissue, then wash your hands). If you are sick then stay away from people. Also, spraying inside your house with Lysol every so often will do wonders. Honestly, I’m far more concerned with many other things than COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

What We Are Missing

What are we missing? The fact that God is in control of all things. That if God wants to allow us to get sick, it doesn’t matter how well we quarantine ourselves it will happen. If he doesn’t want us to get sick then it doesn’t matter how much contact we have with people. Then if it is our time to die, it doesn’t matter if we are sitting in the reclining chair or out in the middle of this hysteria, it will happen. Now we should not purposely do things to try God, but we can’t live in a constant state of fear something will happen. In fact, this should gives us peace knowing that God is in control.

In Luke 21:25-26 it says, “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.”

What we see in Luke 21:25-26 is exactly what is happening right now. The whole world is in distress, completely confused. Due to this hysteria that has been created worldwide, people are panicking out of fear, and not trusting in the Lord. Once again God is in control, not some strand of RNA (ribonucleic acids) that makes up this virus.

So Do We Just Not Care

We should care. First and foremost, we should pray. As Christians we should have a deep concern for the sick and hurting. Yes, there are people being impacted by this virus, due to death, extreme illness, and then even separation from family due to quarantines. Guess what? People have been dealing with death, extreme illness, and separation from family, along with many other things for thousands of years before the Coronavirus. The devil loves confusion, due to the fact of what we’re seeing right now in the world. People, including Christians are so preoccupied with this virus and making sure they have 5 years worth of toilet paper stocked up that we forget how lost our world is and that we need to pray and reach others for Christ.

Take your normal precautions like it is a bad flu season. But pray, pray for logical thinking of leaders to make the right decisions. Pray for the older members of your family and church that the Lord protects them during this time. Lastly, remember God is in control!
