Lack of Knowledge leads to Captivity

A prisoner behind the jail cell bars .

Yesterday I discussed how the lack of knowledge will destroy us. The lack of knowledge will also lead us to being in captivity. We’ve all heard that the truth will set us free. That’s true.

Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst–Isaiah 5:13

Without knowledge of what the Lord has done for us and the knowledge of his ways we can end up being held in a spiritual captivity. Just as we can be a slave to debt, and our creditor is our master; the same can be said for who provides our knowledge.

It has been said that the victor in war is the one that controls history. That’s very true as they are the ones that control what is put in the history books, which are then taught to the younger generations. If we were to really study history, many of the things that we were taught in history class did not quite happen as it is written in a history textbook. We are basically held in a mental captivity from the truth if we do not seek it out.

The world wants nothing to do with what the Bible has to say. In fact, some Christians don’t want to hear everything the Bible has to say. The Bible must be our standard for what is right or wrong and how to conduct our lives. Many times the world will take bits and pieces from the Bible and manipulate it and then reference the Bible when they convey their view points. If we’re not challenging what they say and doing our research we can become captive to the worlds views, which is contrary to God’s. Many will just accept what is said if we throw a scripture verse behind it. Many things can be taken out of context in the Bible and be made to fit any view point.

The Nazi party in the 1930’s used different passages in the Bible to justify what they were doing. They used them out of context or cut and pasted different verses together to make the Bible say what they wanted.

Simply put, if we do not seek knowledge and truth, but except what others tell us because of a verse associated with it, then we are being held captive by their agenda. Anything that I put on here, I encourage people to check out. Sometimes people are just wrong, and accidentally say something that is not right, but others believe it. Many people are held captive to incorrect sayings or beliefs through accident. There are many things that the Bible does not say, but people believe it. I’m going to do a post on that here soon. One example is, God will never give you more than you can handle. Many have used 1 Corinthians 10:13 for this There are many times that people in the Bible faced more than they could handle but God stepped in. If God didn’t give us more than we could handle we would never go to him.

We need to be constantly seeking knowledge and building on what we have learned in the past, so that we don’t become captive to someone else’s beliefs that may or may not be correct.
